How to set up double opt-in for HubSpot email
Double opt-in means someone signs up on a form, then clicks a link in a confirmation email before they are subscribed. It costs you a few sign-ups and gives you a cleaner, safer list.
Do you need it?
- Required: in a few places and for some kinds of email. Check the rules where your contacts live.
- Not required but wise: if your forms attract typos, test addresses or people signing up others.
- Overkill: for people who are already customers and have agreed in person or in a contract.
How it works in HubSpot
- Open the form you use for sign-ups and look in its options for a double opt-in setting. The name varies by portal and plan, so search your settings for it if you can't see it.
- Choose or write the confirmation email: short, one clear button, no extra offers.
- Decide where people land after clicking, usually a thank-you page that says what they will get.
- Test it with your own address and read the email on your phone.
What to write in the confirmation email
Say who you are, what they signed up for and how often you will email. One sentence each, then the button. People confirm when it looks like what they asked for.
After it is live
- Expect a small drop in sign-ups. The people you lose were the least likely to read your emails.
- Watch for confirmation emails landing in spam. If they do, fix your sending domain before anything else.
- Anyone who never confirms stays unsubscribed. Don't add them by hand.
