How to set up an Events custom object in HubSpot

Updated October 2026

If you run recurring in-person events, a custom Event object gives every event its own record and lets you link people to it. It is the cleanest way to keep RSVPs and attendance in HubSpot. It needs the right plan and about half an hour of setup.

What you need

  • HubSpot Enterprise. Custom objects are an Enterprise feature.
  • Super admin or the right permission to create objects.
  • A list of what you want to record for each event.

Create the object

  1. In settings, search for Objects and choose to create a custom object.
  2. Name it Event (plural Events).
  3. Choose the property that shows as the event's name, usually the event title.
  4. Add a date property so events sort and report by time.

Properties worth adding

  • Event date and start time
  • Venue or city
  • Capacity
  • Event type, if you run different formats

Associate it with contacts

An event record is only useful when people are linked to it. Set up the association between Events and Contacts, then add labels for each status: Confirmed, Declined, Waitlisted, Attended. Our guide on association labels explains why the labels do the work.

Check it

  1. Create a test event.
  2. Associate two test contacts, one Confirmed and one Declined.
  3. Open a contact and check the event appears on their record with the right label.
