How to name your HubSpot subscription types, with examples

Updated October 2026

People see your subscription types on the preferences page. If the names are vague or internal, they unsubscribe from everything to be safe. If the names are clear, they pick what they want and stay.

Write a one-line description

Add a short line that says how often and what: "One email a week with our best guides" tells people what they are agreeing to. HubSpot shows the description next to each type.

Keep the list short

  • Three to six types is plenty. More makes choosing a chore.
  • Merge types that nobody can tell apart.
  • Retire types you no longer send.

Tidying an existing list

  1. List every type and how many emails used it in the last six months.
  2. Rename the ones that stay, merge the ones that overlap, and stop sending under the rest.
  3. Check your preferences page afterwards, reading it as a stranger would.
