How to find every contact who unsubscribed from one HubSpot email type

Updated October 2026

Before a big send it helps to know who has already opted out of that kind of email, and after a send it helps to know who left. HubSpot can list both once you know which filter to use.

Build the list

  1. Create a contact list, active or static.
  2. Add a filter on email subscription status and choose the subscription type you care about.
  3. Choose the status "unsubscribed" (or "not subscribed", depending on what you want to see).
  4. Save it, name it clearly, for example "Unsubscribed from Newsletter".

Three useful variations

  • Unsubscribed from one type but still subscribed to others: people you kept. Study what they still read.
  • Unsubscribed from all email: a separate setting. They get no marketing email whatever the type says.
  • Never set either way: contacts with no recorded status. These are the ones to review before a send.

What to do with the list

  • Exclude it from the send, so no one is emailed against their choice.
  • Watch it over time. A sudden jump after one email tells you what not to repeat.
  • Never re-add people to a type without their action. See resubscribing a contact who opted out.
