How to track sales against target in HubSpot
A target only works if the team can see progress against it without asking. HubSpot has a goals tool for this. Here is how to use it, and where people usually stall.
Set the goals
- Open the goals tool in your sales area.
- Create a goal for the metric you care about, usually closed-won revenue.
- Choose the period: weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual.
- Set a target per rep, and a total for the team.
The goals tool is included with some plans and not others, so check yours.
Get the numbers right
- Decide what counts as closed-won and stick to it, for example the stage and the close date.
- Make sure every deal has an owner. Deals without one never reach anyone's total.
- Reset targets cleanly at the start of each period.
Keeping it visible
Goals live inside HubSpot. If reps have to open a report to see them, they mostly won't. Put progress somewhere passive: a dashboard, or a screen. Our guide on putting HubSpot on an office TV covers the options.
Reading progress
Compare where you are with where you should be by now, not just the total. Halfway through the month at 40 percent is behind, and it's easier to fix in week two than week four.
